Square is introducing a new hardware device designed for retail and restaurant ordering. Known as the Square Kiosk, the system combines a large touchscreen with a conversational voice interface powered by artificial intelligence.
The device features a 21.5-inch touchscreen and a distinctive pill-shaped housing. Integrated presence detection allows the kiosk to greet customers as they approach the hardware.
The software layer is designed to understand a merchant's complete menu. Rather than tapping through traditional menu screens, customers can speak to the kiosk as they would talk to human staff members.
The system listens and responds in real time, accommodating questions about menu items as well as custom modifications and ingredient substitutions during the ordering process.
Hardware and Payment Features
Once an order is complete, customers can pay directly at the unit using either the built-in contactless payment reader or the traditional card slot.
The hardware is available starting today. Purchasing the device requires a Square Plus or Premium subscription plan.
