Meta is expanding its personal assistant ecosystem beyond standard chat interfaces with the release of Muse Gadgets. The open-source project invites developers and hobbyists to build their own custom hardware that connects directly to the Muse assistant.
Developer toolkit
To help users get started, Meta is providing low-level device software known as firmware along with a Linux software development kit, or SDK, which is a collection of tools used by programmers to build applications. The project supports affordable hobbyist computers such as the Raspberry Pi and ESP32 boards. Developers can connect the assistant to various screens, buttons, sensors, and other physical components.
Hardware examples
As part of the launch, Meta demonstrated a device called Muse Home Link. Powered by a USB-C connection, the device links the assistant to local home networks so it can communicate with smart speakers and televisions. Meta produced 5,000 units of the Home Link device and offered them for free to existing assistant subscribers.
