Google introduces automated phone calling for Pixel 11 users

Google is introducing a new feature for the Pixel 11 that lets the Gemini artificial intelligence assistant handle phone calls with local businesses. Users can ask Gemini to make reservations, check product availability, or reschedule appointments without dialing the number themselves.

How automated calling works

Instead of placing a call manually, users can instruct Gemini through the Gemini app on their device. The system places the call, introduces itself, navigates automated phone menus, and waits on hold until a person answers.

Users maintain control throughout the interaction. A live transcript view allows them to monitor the conversation in real time and take over the call at any moment if needed.

Availability and context

This early preview builds on previous tools from Google, such as a feature introduced last year that called businesses to check product stock without offering a live takeover option. Other technology companies are exploring similar concepts, including Meta with automated calling features for its Muse agent.

The new capability rolls out as an early preview for Gemini paid subscribers who are enrolled in the Phone by Google Public Beta on Pixel 11 devices in the United States.
